Moving From Cans To Retort Pouches

In the beginning of 2013, I made a prediction about ready to eat food packaging as I found that many global food brands, such as, Heinz, Campbell, Knorr, started to use the stand up retort pouch for their new ready soup or ready food packaging.

Now, Tesco PLC, the world's largest retailers, re-designs its private label ready soup from cans to stand up retort pouches in 2013. See? Retort pouches ,the latest and innovative ready food packaging, are really on the rise. Thanks to the excellent graphics printing panels, advanced printing technologies & variety of value added functionality, retort pouches offer market differentiation. It grabs customers attentions in a competitive market. It's clearly the major reason that many and many ready food manufacturers and private label ready soup companies start to use retort pouch for its ready food and ready soup.

Anyone likes ready to eat(RTE)foods? Why do you like them? Yes, they're convenient. We can consume the ready to eat foods anywhere & anytime. In last century, cans or glasses were the only packaging methods for canning. Undoubtedly, they were excellent barrier, which extended the foods' shelf life. However, most of the nutrition value were lost during the retort process. That's why more & more protesters state that RTE foods are unhealthy.

I think many people like this new packaging for ready drinks,at least all my friends love it.If there is a spout on the pouch,this packaging will be perfect!

I totally agree with it.To survive in a high competitive market, business has to understand and solve customers' needs. Leveraging packaging innovation with product innovation is the only way to solve the consumer needs and make profits. That's why i always think that spout pouch is the new trend of beverage & liquor packaging packaging and will replace all PET bottle & glass bottle in the future. Do you agree?

Is it eye catching & outstanding at the point of sales? I do think the packaging is very cute & lovely, it makes me think of my cat in the shop lol 

It's a cat-shaped stand up bag, with the easy-to-open resealable zipper on top as well as a transparent bottom. It allows buyers to preview the cat litter. Also, it's very easy for pet owner to keep the cat litter at home as the packaging bag is a reusable pet food container itself. Therefore, it's not only eye catching at the point-of sales, it's also user friendly & convenient for end-users. I think it's definitely a win-win packaging bag for Wee Kitty & pet owners. 

I think it's time for pet products producers,like pet food, pet treat, dog food, cat food, cat litter,etc, to re-think about how to be different in the market. Maybe they are too concentrated on ingredients or the internal value, but miss the importance of the pet product packaging.

Ok, it's time to introduce 2013 packaging. Take a look of it.

Isn't it more impressive & outstanding? In 2012 PLMA, the annual worldwide private label show, I saw this impressive oil packaging. Jardin Bio, a French natural foo company, replaced the traditional bottle oil packaging by a 2L flexible pouch with a tab. The new oil pouch performs much better than BIB & glass bottle in term of costs, convenience & sustainability. It is estimated that the new oil packaging pouch reduces wastes by 90%. I do like this packaging which is cost effective, eye catching, ease & convenience.

Campers & hikers must like it as it's very light & easy to carry. I believe this spout pouch will be the next generation of large volume liquid packaging pouch, such as, alcohol, wine, beverage, water, oil, etc.
